Aus den Liner Notes:
In a time when self-indulgent fretboard histrionics could practically be the official definition of modern blues this CD is a refreshing departure from the monotony of endless guitar wars.
By combining and personalizing blues, swing, R&B and related elements of 20th-century American music, Doug Jay has skillfully crafted a collection of fully realized songs that would compare favorably with works of the great songwriters of the genre; near forgotten masters like Henry Glover, Charles Calhoun and Fats Washington, and others more celebrated like Willie Dixon and the team of Leiber & Stoller.
Oh, and incidentally, the singin' is swingin', the harp playing is passionate and powerful and the band approaches Doug's imaginative arrangements with complete confidence and a deep groove.
Doug has been honing his craft since the mid-70's on both the east and west coast of the United States and more recently on major blues festials and in night clubs all over the European continent. Widespread recognition has been long overdue, but I have to say I think Doug HAS hit the jackpot on this disc and if you bought it, so did you.
